Ummmm....God? (December 29, 2004, 03:31:38 AM) quote
Did God cause the earthquake/tsunami? Why didn't he warn the children? Where were the guardian angels?

quote:
The cruelty was in the timing. Kapaliswaram, a policeman, described the scene: "There were kids playing cricket right out at the edge of the sea. Nobody round here knows who they were. No trace of their bodies has been found." Fishermen told how they had been swept away but had been able to swim back. The children could not. Nor could they run fast enough to escape.

When the Israelites replaced El with his son Yhvh it was only a matter of time before Yhvh's son would one day replace him.

Alleee's skit on Noah's flood promted me to do some looking around to find out what xtian news had to say on this subject. The Bible gives us a story of Noah's flood that was many times more destructive than this tsunami. With this tragedy in mind it brings home the real sense of the loss of life that God is said to have inflicted on this planet just a few thousand years ago....

Here is an article on Crosswalk.com:
www.crosswalk.com/faith/1303677.html

A few noteworthy quotes:

quote:
In an email message to Williams, Bishop Ezra Sargunam (the head of ECI), described the scene in India: “Dead bodies have been piling up in the government hospitals. … The most tragic element of the calamity was that the majority of the victims were children, women, the aged and the infirm who couldn’t escape the ravaging waves. Those who did escape a watery-grave lost their homes and all their belongings and are literally on the streets, homeless and penniless. The fear of an outbreak of an epidemic is also looming large with numerous rotting human and animal carcasses lying everywhere.”

quote:
Doctor Ajith Fernando, who is considered by some to be the “Billy Graham of Sri Lanka,” heads up the Youth for Christ (YFC) office there. A long-time friend and partner of NDI, he wrote to Williams from Sri Lanka: “What a sad day this has been! We keep hearing of more and more friends and loved ones of friends who have died or lost much of their belongings. … The death toll for Sri Lanka alone is over 10,000 and keeps rising. … We have prayed and wept for our nation for many years. The most urgent of my prayers has always been that my people would turn to Jesus. I pray that this terrible, terrible tragedy might be used by God to break through into the lives of many of our people.”

This is a link from a xtian site to a Yahoo story. Perhaps this is why God brought the disaster?

story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=574&ncid=721&e=10&u=/nm/20041230/wl_nm/quake_lanka_tigers_dc

quote:
KILINOCHCHI, Sri Lanka (Reuters) - The aftermath of a tsunami that destroyed vast swathes of Sri Lanka's coastline raised hopes on Thursday of a new era of peace between Tamil Tiger rebels and the government.

Here's a quote from Agape Press confirming that God does indeed have a purpose with this tragedy.
headlines.agapepress.org/archive/12/282004a.asp

quote:
"We believe God can work through anything for good if it brings people to Himself," he says, "and we would not be so fatalistic as to say that He causes it for that purpose. But we would certainly want to respond as Christians to lead people to that kind of faith perspective on what they've experienced."

Here's one from mission network news crying out "If only we had more resources we could have saved their souls....
mnn.gospelcom.net/light/article/6827

quote:
As many people mourn the loss of loved ones, missionaries are mourning their souls. DeGroot says only two-percent of the population are known to be Christians. "What makes it even more tragic in these flood prone areas is these are people who are searching. We're getting out there as best we can. If we could just have gotten some workers out there, these would be people who would be led to Christ. But, we're just restricted by resources."

1. God did/did not cause this quake? That's not for man to decide - besides it was probably the devil trying to stop the missionary work there...
2. God could/could not have/wasn't willing to stop it? Quit trying to bring man's knowledge into this - you don't know the mind of God!
3. There is a greater good here? Sure - it may lead to a friendship between warring peoples - but why not take them out instead of all the women, children and elderly? Another story tells how the animals seemed to know this was coming - why couldn't God do that for these people?
4. Please send cash so if this happens again at least their souls will get to heaven.
5. Get your soul right with God - you never know when this could happen to you...

It would seem that all those millions if not billions of prayers and prostrations to "Allah" were entirely useless.
