Existence exists, but what existence means? (September 30, 2005, 04:14:52 AM) |

Hello,
I've a question about noncognitivism. To strong atheism, one of the reason that god doesn't exist is that the very concept of god is meaningless.
I agree, but it seems to me that other concepts are meaningless, despite strong atheism asserts their existence.
Some examples :
- Existence, what is the meaning of "existence" ? - Meaning, what is the meaning of "meaning" ? - Nothingness, what is the meaning of "nothingness" ?
Talking of nothingness, I would like to discut about after death too. To strong atheist, after death, it's nothingness, but isn't it conflicting with axioms of Objectivism (that, I know, his at least the philosophy of one strong atheist : Franc ) ? Indeed, how existence could not exist ? It's silly. I concede that consciousness could not exist and so, that I can be unconscious after death, that my individual "I" disappears as individual to merge with universe and perhaps relive into new forms but how could it be nothingness ? What is like to be... nothing ? And how a change which is suppose to be definitive could be timeless ? (indeed, if after death, it's nothingness, than I cannot experiment time flow) It's seems to me that disappaerance is only meaningful in relation to something which persists.
Thanks a lot for your comments.
Best regards,
Miky
